Bringing history to life
“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember,
involve me and I learn.”
― Benjamin Franklin
Jazz has been our thing for a long time, all kinds; 20's era, latin, etc. To make the experience fun for the audience, we always dress to the 9's for the theme/feel of each show. Here are some of our favorites through the years.
SpeakEasy at the Merc 1920's (below)
Having a Music and an Education degree introduces one to every style of music. I've done them all from Country to Rock to Broadway, but my best fit is Jazz. It is fun to incorporate some of those styles mixed with Jazz and Dixieland and that is exactly what we became masters at!
Mardi Gras & Dixieland was our specialty
One of the many trios I've done with my daughters. This one is for a Southern Gospel style show and we did some numbers from the movie Oh Brother Where Art Thou.
Sometimes we play in cold weather, both indoors and out. This was for a Charleston show which we cleared all the chairs and the audience could dance the night away.
Sometimes it's cold, sometimes it's just "Too Darn Hot" and the music we choose reflects that like Summertime and Too Darn Hot.
I learned the hard way that feathers are warm!
But no matter where we played, we usually sold out and we had a fun show!
Some of our most popular were...
anytime the girls came to sing!
Andrews Sisters Tribute Trio from Wartime and Patriotic shows
and sometimes we dance, we've done tap, swing, jive, etc!
But we had many other fun shows and fun outfits to do them in!
We'll never forget the time we were hired with a Big Band to sing for a 94 year old Auschwitz survivor's Birthday party. He wanted to music of his liberators of the 1940's to celebrate.
Other fun shows
We also did some Rock/Blues and this night we introduced Saint James Infirmary, one of our best songs to perform.
Sometimes we can get a little fruity
And sometimes a little corny...
But we always keep it classy! From Disney
To Country
As Grisabella singing Memory from CATS
Honey Bun from South Pacific
Sound of Music
Lonley Goatherder's Song
On the Road
Steaming Down the Riverboat
from songs about boats, singing on boats and songs from boats...
we set sail on an ocean of musical ideas!
(Titanic's 100th anniversary)
from Holidays to everything in between...
Charleston
Even got to try some Zydeco with a guest group! I play washboard and other things ( I play instruemnts too but am busier as a vocalist).
Our CD is out!
Having done may kinds of gigs from combos to big band, performing all over from restaurants to private & public parties, our favrite long-standing gig was at the Old Temecula Mercantile. Right in the heart of wine country and the oldest an most perfectly acoustic building, we got our groove on in many different styles of Jazz. Artists from all over were invited to be featured and jam with us. Some were legends, some were students. That's how my own babes of jazz got their start! We'll feature them here too. The Merc is a thriving hub for the Arts in Southern California and it was a pleasure and a privilege to play there!
We had a Disney Jazz show and brought in some Disneyland musicians as guests. That was a fun show!
It was fun to march in and through the audience with that 20 foot peacock train I made!
Everyone looked and sounded the part!
Ragtime show and this one featured a local piano virtuoso. His "Kitten on the Keys" was stellar!
Cold Weather Jazz
I got some back-up with my mini-me
Victorian Christmas show with Carolers all bundlesd up.
and we recently sang for the City of Kennesaw's veterans in 2020 at the drive through luch option due to Covid.
With Mayor Easterling of Kennesaw
This is how little the girls were when we started the Trio: 6 & 8 years old!
Our own middle school jazz trumpet player was good enough to play with the pros!
I call this look Breakfast at Tiffany's meets Carrie Underwood (above)!
And when I get that Mood Indigo...
I worked with a producer for American Idol with his charity of young vocalists called Girls Against Abuse.
I once got a job at a Coachella-like event in Victorville, CA and it was taken away as the producers thought I was lipsyncing to Faith Hill and not my own demo!
Brigadoon
Almost Like Being in Love
Phantom of the Opera
High on a hill was a lonely goatherd...
We needed to make the puppets to pull off the song, so we did out of Cheerios boxes!
On the Road
Steaming Down the Riverboat
Right before we went on, our trombone player dumped his ice water on my collection of Titanic songs played on the ship. I exclaimed: You sunk my book!
All kinds of things to sing about...
We do some latin and this gig was all in Spanish! Good thing I learned to sing in 8 languages in college: English, Spanish, Italian, German, French, Latin, Swahili, and ASL!
