involve me and I learn.”

The Victorian Era is from 1837 to 1901 for Queen Victoria of England's reign. It reflects a long period of peace, prosperity, refined sensibilities and national self-confidence for Britain. For America, it paralleled the British version in style (corsets, hoop skirts, bonnets, high necklines and lace), but instead of peace was steeped in Civil War, expansion in the West, and enlightenment. The Heritage House in Riverside pictured here was one of the first of it's kind in Southern California with indoor plumbing and a flushing toilet built in 1891. It is a great representation of the era, but also of an emerging Era of Women's Sufferage. The owner Catharine Bettner, a widow, was ahead of her time having the huge house with the latest technology built for herself.
